Broken Link Checker Extension (bring it back!)

Bring back the Broken Link Checker Extension that was supported in Main WP until 2020. This is a key feature to centralize link checking for Word Press sites and all major competitors have this feature built in. There have been a few discussions about this in the Support Forums for Main WP and they are here: https://meta.mainwp.com/t/bring-back-broken-link-checker/2036 https://meta.mainwp.com/t/broken-links-checker/2093 https://meta.mainwp.com/t/broken-links-extension/439 There is a non-supported version on GitHub based on the 2020 code base (https://github.com/7thcirclegit/mainwp-broken-links-checker-extension) but it has a major issue where a list of URLs is not properly returned. I am currently having a PHP Developer look at fixing this so it might be super easy to include this in the code code base. Here is what the 2020 version looks like within MainWP currently (keeping in mind that a list of URLs is NOT returned). I wish I could upload my favorite plugin with its license attached and that it automatically updates all the time. So when I have a new site to install, i can just pull the last version of my favorite plugins instead of an old one without licence that i still need to register and update on the new site.

We need to get rid of that old redundant token system. Currently, we have “Boilerplate tokens”, “Client report tokens” and “Client Report Pro tokens”. So MWP requires us to actually enter the same data three times. And if we have the same owner for different websites even more often… What we need is the following: Introduce a “website owner” content type We can associate different websites to the same owner We have a consistent set of tokens which can be used in any extension that uses variables. Please give this a much-needed overhaul as this has been discussed already several years ago. Such little things really can make a difference.

The security section of the WP Care Pro Report needs some attention! The only options are to provide the results of a sucuri site scan, which we know is something that cannot be automated. If I need to run weekly scans to make anything populate in this section I’m paying someone to go and click all the ‘scan’ buttons for all our sites which is just not something that is happening. We need the ability to either show the stats from the built-in vulnerability checker which uses wpscan.com 2 or to use some other security system like Shield Security Pro, or any others.

However, sometimes certain anomalies may prevent this that is out of the control of MainWP Dashboard. “What has happened to me in the past though is that the trusted updates didn’t install, and I didn’t get any notification about this. Hi all, Probably easy feature to implement, because footer text, and branding already exists, but I think having a notification banner (custom message), at the very top of Wordpress dashboard for other admins, would be great feature. Since the vulnerability database began charging for API access with only 50 free per day, the value of the extension has really been limited. It would be nice if a feature could be added so that we could enter the number of API requests we get per day (50 for free or some other for those who pay), and have the extension stop after exhausting each of those API calls and then queue up the remaining ones to begin on the following day when the credit is refreshed. This would allow the system to ‘rotate’ through sites each day as API credits were available and provide at least some level of scanning instead of nothing. Another options would be to be able to include this as part of the maintenance extension so users could just set maintenance tasks for each site they wish to scan and have them run on different days when the API credit is refreshed.

More detail on plugin updates

I love MainWP, but I am having one issue. I manage multiple sites, and having the ability to update all plugins can be a real time saver. The issue I have is when a particular plugin crashes while updating. MainWP just sits there without telling me anything. Sometimes, like today, on a couple of sites I was testing this on, all of the plugins updated, but the “updating” window never reported 100%, and didn’t close automatically. If it would simply report that “the xxx plugin cannot be updated”, or show that each plugin has updated in the progress bar. Something like that. Also, when updating plugins on a site’s WordPress dashboard, it states that (according to the author) “this update is 100% compatible with xxx”. If MainWP could report that as well, I could avoid attempting to update those plugins.

Pro Reports tokens for listing abandoned plugins

Lighthouse - avg scores over time

Is it possible to get an average of lighthouse scores over time for client reports? Lighthouse scores can vary from one check to the next so it would be nice to take an average. Otherwise, 1 outlying low/high score can be misleading and not representative of the website's avg score. GTmetrix, for example, does this if you create a website monitor. It checks every X hours/days/etc. and then reports an average in a weekly email. Either a fixed X days (e.g. 7 days) average or the ability for us to control how many days/weeks/months to average would be helpful. This average should be available as a token for client reports and possibly also used in the dashboard screens instead of showing the most recent scan.

Hi there, I was wondering what people would think if we changed the default site sorting to use the nice name we entered alphabetically instead of the currently used domain name characters. Even ever I’m looking for a website called something with A, say Apothecary XZY, I would expect to find it high up in the list, if the domain starts with a www. subdomain though it does show up under W, which defeats the purpose of alphabetical ordering. TL;DR The default ability to easily delete a Parent Theme can completely break a site. Shouldn’t be so easy to do. I was quite shocked that MainWP would happily allow me to delete the parent of my active child theme. Working in MainWP allows for sweeping changes, and it’s my contention that any parent of the active Child Theme should not be removable. They should be locked by default and, if one really wants to remove it for some unimaginable reason, one should have to affirm multiple times.

Hello All, This is a fabulous plugin that has enhanced my agency in a fantastic way. Not all my clients pay their fees on time, so there are times when no updates/maintenance are done on their website. I would still want to give them a report of the maintenance that is pending for their website (this should encourage them to pay the fee), however, I do not see any pending updates token. Multiple Uptime Monitors for a single Child site

Did a client ever call you to say their website was “down”, but Uptime Monitor didn’t detect it? The reason is often an agressive caching strategy where the homepage is full cached, but as soon as you try to log in the site, or use the cart on an e-commerce site, the experience breaks down. For this reason, I would like to have the ability to add multiple Uptime Monitors for a single site, so I could elect to monitor not only the homepage, but also the shop, the login page, to ensure over-agressive caching is not masking a problem with the rest of the site. Today, we can create multiple HTTP monitors, but only the one for the Homepage is showing up on a site’s dashboard screen in MainWP. In an ideal world, we would be able to associate additional Monitors to a given site, and they would all show up on that child’s dashboard in MainWP. Anyone interested… anyone? … anyone?

See which Code Snippets apply to a Child Site at a glance

It currently is difficult when managing many Code Snippets in MainWP to see what ones apply to any given Child Site. Currently it requires loading up every Code Snippet one by one and checking that way. I’d love to see a tab or something where I could do a quick lookup of Code Snippets by the Child Site, so that if I wanted to easily see what Code Snippets are applicable to Website #30, I can do so without needing to access dozens of Code Snippets individually.

List of Plugins Usage

I'd like a list of all plugins across all sites I can see the plugin list per site by going to each site, but I need a list of all the plugins so I can see which plugins are used on which sites. This will help me manage my licenses as well. Ideally the list would be an expandable (tree) list of the sites using the plugin with a count of the total sites. Also Note: Listing the plugins for the sites horizontally across the page is a horrible way to show them. I can't make my screen wide enough. At the minimum, enable horizontal scroll. Ideally, this too would be a tree.

Domain Monitor: a toggle switch or manual date entry for uncrawlable TLDs

The domain monitor crawl doesn't work for some TLDs - that's okay, but while we're waiting for new solutions: Could we get a toggle to exclude specific domains from domain monitoring? That way we don’t get any emails reminding us that a domain is about to expire in 1969 :) Another solution would be to allow us to enter an expiry date manually (domain-monitor.io allows this) Thank you.

Receiving a daily digest is quite tedious. I would prefer setting a weekly, per two weeks or monthly notification, while only errors are interesting to me within that timeframe. I heard about snippets, so this is maybe already tweakable ?

Pro Reports without PDF and token support in body

With the pro reports extension a PDF is always sent to the client and, in our case, that's not needed. We only send a quick overview of how many backups were made, how many visits, how many updates, etc... With the previous extension that info was quickly and easily editable and inserted in the email body, now not so much. We can't even add those tokens to the email body. I understand the need for PDF reports but you could bring back token support for the email bodyand add an option to generate the PDF or not

UpDraftPlus Backup Before Updates

UpDraftPlus will back up only the Core CMS, Plugins, or Themes along with the database when either of these are updated. It would be nice to have this same functionality in the extension. Or at the very least, provide the option of what to backup, (Core CMS, Plugins, or Thems and database) in the extension if we need to do it manually before we do any updates in MainWP. At this point, we can only do a full site backup if we decide to backup before any update. Automatic Backup only the relevant items being updated and the database. Select what to backup during a manual backup.

With the "regular" reports, we could do far more customization to include graphic and intro for each section. But the old version didn't do PDF. The "Pro" reports require editing PHP to customize the reports and the included reports are blah at best. We don't even have the option to include some information, Google Analytics for example, without editing the PHP and inserting tokens. Why doesn't it have a checkbox like other types of information? Typemarker has a fairly expensive add-on that does more, but has zero documentation. Given that reporting is extremely important for letting clients know of the work we've done for them, this is in need of a massive update.

This is critical in my infrastructure and I’m surprised it’s not in mainwp by default. Especially since, compared to most of the other stuff you are doing, that is a pretty simple coding add, assuming you are triggering wp core update. Detect when plugin license not activated

As it is right now, when I update premium plugins and the license hasn't been activated yet, MainWP shows the updates as successful... then I synchronize all sites and it shows the same sites again needing that update. Upon investigation, I find out that it's a premium plugin (such as ACF Pro) which hasn't had the license activated. It would be really cool if MainWP would show that it couldn't update due to the license not being updated, instead of erroneously indicating that the update was successful.

Pro Reports - Check if plugin is enabled for site

Hi, I think something could be improved in Pro Reports. I'm in a situation where some of our child sites have almost all report-compatible plugins (analytics, uptime, lighthouse...) and others have none or few of them. The problem is that in report template, MainWP is using "is_plugin_active" to know if analytics is enabled. If the plugin is enabled in MainWP, but not in the child site, empty data will be showing in the report of this child. In "Report Data", everything is set on "Hide if empty", but it has no effect. tl;dr : When checking if plugin a is enabled in Pro reports, also check that it's enabled for the site of the report.

UpdraftPlus - have ability to select individual backups to bulk actions on, such as delete or do other functions as you would on the website directly

Because UpdraftPlus (UP) can be set to auto backup before updates it can create quite a lot of unnecessary backups over time. These backups don’t get auto-deleted like scheduled ones do. So, I’ve made it a habit of coming in once a month and manually selecting all of the various automatic update backups for the prior month and deleting them in bulk. All at once. Currently isn't any way to select a group of individual backups and delete them in bulk. This doesn’t exist as a feature. I believe it is critical if you are offering a specific extension for UpdraftPlus, it needs to have this basic ability.

The sucuri plugin is also used together on some sites, as it can identify some changes that go unnoticed by Wordfence. Validate plugin before uploading

My suggestion is that MainWP would check the ZIP file during the initial upload, before sending it up to the sites, in order to test if the archive contains a valid Wordpress plugin. Sometimes ZIP files downloaded from marketplaces such as Codecanyon contains not only the plugin file but also documentation, examples and other stuff. If one forgets to check for that beforehand, then MainWP will send the archive to the sites, uncompress them and of course that would result in the plugin not being installed and activated, and leftover files are now residing on the server. The Plesk Wordpress toolkit already implements such validation feature.

Sometimes plugins/themes are removed via (S)FTP and will be automatically deactivated by WordPress. So would it be possible to detect that and show it as a “Non-MainWP Change”? This would be useful for manually via (S)FTP or webhost’s filemanager deleted items, but might also be able to show updates that haven’t been completed successfully because the old version could not be removed (file locking or insufficient rights). I'd like a list of all plugins across all sites under management I can see the plugin list per site by going to each site, but I want a list of all the plugins (and Ideally an expandable list of the sites using the plugin). A tree list of plugins with an expandable list of sites using the plugin would be great. Also: Listing the plugins for the sites horizontally across the page is a horrible way to show them. I can't make my screen wide enough. At least allow the page to use sliders/elevators so the screen can scroll horizontally. An expandable tree list here would be best as well

Installing Themes/Plugins By Uploading Zip File From Localhost MainWP Dashboard

Many of you here might be using the MainWP Dashboard from Localhost Setup as I do. By any chance have you faced the following issue? Which is while installing a theme/plugin if we have the Zip file to upload it don’t work, because of localhost not having access to external traffic. One possible solution to this can be having a cloud integration like Google Drive, DropBox etc. So that we can upload the zip file to the cloud and all the child sites can access the file from the cloud. Treat Dashboard installation as a Child site automatically

Would you consider a feature to have the dashboard site treated as a child site automatically? It seems this might be a nice idea for new users who don’t necessarily think about the need to keep their main dashboard up to date (and secured with security plugins). My thought here is that your child sites are only as secure as your weakest link, and if the dashboard is neglected this can be a serious issue. For example, I have extensive security plugins installed on my child sites, but I just set up a fresh MainWP dashboard and hooked it up to these child sites, but I haven’t yet installed all the security plugins on my dashboard site. Therefore, my child sites are now unprotected if a hacker knows my dashboard site URL and is able to get in due to the lack of security plugins in the current state.
